About Me

Who am I and what am I doing here?

Well, I am one of three Conservative councillors representing Kentwood ward on Reading Borough Council. I was only elected in May 08 so I am still getting the hang of things and this is my first attempt to enter the blogosphere. The main purpose of the blog is to keep in touch with local residents and let them know what I am up to on their behalf, as well as to give a bit of insight into who I am and what interests me (outside politics).

A little bit of history…

I am originally from Carmarthen in West Wales and came to Reading to study history in 1994. During my final year I worked part time in the old Lloyds Chemist in the Broad Street then, after graduating, I started  with Prudential at 121 King’s Road. Several jobs later, I now work for an Insurer in the City and commute to London every day.

And a bit more about me!

History is my thing…. from ancient Rome to Revolutionary Russia, via medieval Wales my bookshelf has the lot. Russia is my current favourite though, sparked by a trip to Moscow and St Petersburg in 2004.

I’m not one for a beach/club holiday – last year I visited the deserts and magnificent buildings of Uzbekistan and the supremely weird Turkmenistan, a trip that ended in the city of Ashgabat which is surely one of the most outlandish capital cities in the world. I recommend it if you fancy something a little out of the ordinary!

I love my tennis and try to visit at least one grand slam a year – this year I missed out on Wimbledon but did have 2 days at the French Open in Paris. My other sporting interest is rugby… especially when Wales win a Grand Slam! ;-)
